Surviving the Teen Years Seminar
This is a preventive course designed to help parents understand how the physical, social/emotional and cognitive changes of adolescence affect behavior, judgment, drugs/alcohol, sneaking out, and risky behavior with computers. This information helps parents depersonalize their child's behavior and see it in the context of development. The presentation style uses humor, storytelling and a "goody bag" of practical, helpful techniques.
  • Learn the 5 major tasks of adolescence
  • Learn how puberty affects your teen’s behavior and identify his/her "lightening rod"
  • Uncover your teen’s "imaginary audience" and learn how it influences behavior
  • Discover your teen’s personal fable and learn how it affects judgment around risky behaviors. Learn strategies for helping them make good decisions.
  • Learn how to "teen-proof" your home
Follow-up Seminar 2:
  • Learn how to manage the task of separation/individuation
  • Learn how to manage disrespectful behavior
  • Learn effective strategies for communication and limit setting
  • Learn how to understand and best help your teen develop his/her personal identity
