Sexual Harassment/Sensitivity Awareness training is an effective way to prevent harassment and promote diversity in the workplace. Sexual Harassment Prevention focuses almost entirely on gender issues in the workplace, while Sensitivity Awareness includes examples of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, and age. Both programs use humor, video cases, written cases and verbal examples to clarify many of the grey areas of harassment. After the training, participants become more relaxed about the topic and are more apt to speak up when they are offended. This reduces formal complaints and improves communication in the workplace.
Employees and managers participate in separate sessions. The employee session is 90 minutes. The manager session is between two and three hours long. The extra time in the manager session is devoted to helping the manager feel at ease when receiving a complaint. Managers discuss issues around confidentiality, when to bring complaints to HR, and how to make the first meeting with a complainant a success.
